Dhaka, June 3 -- With the Eid-ul-Azha holiday commencing this Thursday (June 5), individuals throughout the nation have started traveling back to their hometowns to reunite with family and friends for celebrations.

Although the large-scale departure is anticipated to reach peak intensity starting Thursday, the continuous rain has introduced an additional worry for tourists.

Even though there has been a minor drop in precipitation over the last few days, significant rainfalls persist across much of the nation. This leaves many people pondering whether the forthcoming Eid travels will proceed without issues or face considerable challenges.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reports that the south-west monsoon is presently showing moderate activity across Bangladesh and experiencing fairly strong conditions over the North Bay of Bengal.

For the period between 9:00 am on Tuesday (June 3) and Wednesday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicts that several regions within the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, certain sections of the Rangpur, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions, as well as scattered spots in the Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barisal divisions might see brief strong breezes along with light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms.

As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, Dhaka's livestock markets start taking form.

Moreover, there could be moderately heavy rain in certain regions of the Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions, with moderate to extremely heavy precipitation occurring sporadically across the Sylhet division.

On June 4th, which falls on a Wednesday, the majority of areas are anticipated to keep facing rain showers.

According to the weather predictions, several regions within the Sylhet division might experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by occasional thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind. Some parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions could also see similar conditions. Additionally, scattered areas in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions might encounter brief spells of rain. Notably, certain sections of the Sylhet division are expected to face moderately heavy downpours at times.

In the coming days, from Thursday through Saturday (which includes Eid), we can anticipate a steady decrease in precipitation. Although monsoonal activity will persist, the chances of rain will reduce progressively.

Various regions throughout the nation might continue to encounter intermittent strong breezes coupled with mild to moderately heavy rainfall or thunderstorms during this time frame.

This implies that even though the start of the Eid travel rush might face some interruptions because of rainfall, circumstances should get better progressively as the weekend moves forward.

What About Heat?

Even with the rainfall, temperatures haven’t fallen considerably in all areas.

The BDM reported that Dhaka had a temperature of 24.6°C at 6:00 AM on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a moderate heatwave is affecting the Khulna region. The previous day, on Monday, the highest temperature in the nation was observed in Satkhira with a reading of 37.2°C.

The weather office has warned that temperatures in Khulna and nearby regions might increase over the coming day, despite ongoing rain showers. However, for the remainder of the nation, a minor decrease in temperature is anticipated during this period as rains persist.

As mentioned, when the rain begins to taper off, the temperatures are anticipated to rise once more.

The BMD predicts that heat levels will rise significantly following Eid. This indicates that although post-Eid travel might encounter fewer disruptions due to rainfall, it could instead experience higher temperatures.

Travelers should prepare for a potentially uneasy beginning of the holiday rush because of persistent rain showers. However, there is hope for better weather ahead, as conditions are anticipated to get progressively nicer, with more pleasant skies forecasted in the days after Eid.
