Sunview Medipro International has formally initiated Phase 1 of an extensive project to install cutting-edge medical devices in various public healthcare centers nationwide, spanning from the national level down to counties and sub-counties within Kenya.

The innovative initiative launched through the National Equipment Service Program (NESP) by the Ministry of Health (MoH), working closely with the Council of Governors (CoG), aims to distribute an initial set of equipment including 98 Diagnostic Imaging CT scan machines (two for each county), along with two mammography imaging devices, 400 operating theaters, and 400 laboratories throughout the nation.

Operating within a Fee-for-Service (FFS) framework, this program aims to update healthcare facilities and enhance the early detection and management of common illnesses in public institutions.

This launch marks a significant step in Kenya’s dedication to providing dispersed access to advanced healthcare facilities as part of its larger aim for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

"By adopting our comprehensive strategy, we guarantee uninterrupted assistance for healthcare professionals across every stage of implementation," stated Mr. Sirat Amin, CEO of Sunview Medipro, during the launch event held at the organization’s Nairobi base.

He stressed that the program goes beyond delivering equipment; it encompasses installation, set-up, thorough training, maintenance, provision of spare parts, supplies, and ongoing consulting to guarantee seamless and top-notch health care services.

Installation work has already commenced at Jaramogi Ogadinga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, King Fahd Lamu County Referral Hospital, Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, and the Wajir County Referral Hospital.

James Kamau, who serves as the Principal Supply Chain Officer for the Council of Governors, stated that the initial stage will focus primarily on Level 5 and critical referral hospitals.

"Thanks to the FFS model, public health facilities are now capable of providing advanced medical services without bearing significant capital expenses," explained Kamau.

Counties stand to save millions in maintenance expenses through this initiative, allowing them to redirect funds towards hiring additional healthcare personnel and purchasing crucial medical equipment.

The enhanced facilities are anticipated to facilitate reverse referrals as well, allowing patients who usually turn to national referral or private hospitals for their needs to receive equivalent care closer to home.

This change will facilitate comprehensive, high-quality, and complimentary public healthcare services at the county level, consistent with the objectives of the Universal Health Coverage initiative.

County governments are encouraged to expedite their registration with the Social Health Authority (SHA) so that the public can fully reap the benefits of these enhanced services.

Health Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga commended the initiative, noting that it guarantees no pregnant woman or ill patient will be turned away from receiving medical attention because they cannot afford to pay.

"Providing our healthcare centers with the appropriate resources is essential for delivering quality care. This is how we construct a responsive and resilient health infrastructure," he emphasized.

Sunview Medipro has joined forces with internationally renowned producers such as GE, Fuji, and United Imaging to provide top-of-the-line machinery.
