AISB's education is moving towards the future. The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) is excited to introduce the Global Impact Diploma (GID), an innovative academic program that enables students to bring about tangible changes in the real world while achieving academic success. Available at just four other institutions globally, the GID positions AISB as part of a forward-thinking group reshaping the concepts of learning, leadership, and influence.
This program provides students an alternative route. It consists of a two-year series of classes at the conclusion of high school, aimed at equipping students to make a difference through genuine learning, practical application, self-directed projects, and focused academic studies. Here is a viewpoint from a student involved in GID, “I selected GID because I believed it aligned better with my learning style, customized to my needs and how my mind functions.”
The Global Impact Diploma (GID) was created through a common vision and the joint efforts of teachers and administrators from over 100 international schools globally. For the 2025-2026 academic year, 28 initial schools worldwide have committed to providing this innovative program that emphasizes personal purpose, social responsibility, and professional preparedness. Among these, only five institutions—Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Lima, Peru, American International School of Budapest in Hungary, Learnlife in Barcelona, Rafa Nadal School in Mallorca, Spain, and AISB—will offer the complete Global Impact Diploma. This makes AISB a genuine leader in forward-thinking education. Students participating in the GID track will interact with peers and mentors across the globe, creating an authentic international learning environment.
The Global Impact Diploma reflects AISB's dedication to equipping students not only for higher education, but for life in general, said Rachel Caldwell, School Director. It demonstrates our conviction that current students deserve an education that acknowledges their identity, motivates them to act with intention, and equips them to create a significant impact globally.
In a world where transformation outpaces tradition, AISB is forging a new path in education through the introduction of the Global Impact Diploma. This groundbreaking initiative extends beyond traditional academics, enabling students to take charge of their educational experience, develop personal well-being, and address real-life issues with intention and imagination. It represents learning that goes beyond the classroom, preparing students to succeed and create meaningful change in the world.
The International Influence Certificate is more than an achievement — it represents a transformation in learning, added Justin Clouden, Global Impact Diploma Coordinator. We are establishing an environment where students can shape their own educational journeys, develop key skills, and make a tangible difference in society.
Based on three core foundations — Autonomy, Engaging Education, and Mental Health — the GID prepares students not just with information, but with the mental attitude and skills needed to succeed and make a difference in an ever more complicated world.
Launched August 2025
The GID was recently introduced for the 2025–2026 academic year, featuring three core courses:
English and The Imperfect Art of Living– A thoughtful, question-driven class examining self-development, purpose, and psychological health
The Basis of Leadership for Change– A fundamental requirement for all GID students, this course provides participants with the perspective and resources needed to guide themselves and others toward beneficial transformation.
Internship for Impact– A practical scenario in which students fully engage with an organization of their preference, gaining insights from industry experts, acquiring skills essential for their careers, and discovering routes that align their abilities with fulfilling, mission-oriented careers.
University and Career Readiness
Although the GID is relatively new, colleges are becoming more aware of the benefits of hands-on learning, genuine evaluation, and skill-based portfolios. Students who complete the GID program will earn the AISB High School Diploma, a qualification that is well-known and valued by universities around the globe. Furthermore, they will stand out during the college admissions process due to a varied portfolio of meaningful experiences, such as academic classes, practical internships, and a final project with a significant impact.
Through this initiative, AISB strengthens its position as a leader in global education, combining academic achievement with mission-focused learning that equips students to make a difference in a dynamic and changing world.
Looking Forward
AISB is set to commemorate the introduction of the Global Impact Diploma on Thursday, November 20th, at AISB. This event will offer students, educators, and school leaders the opportunity to engage with members of the community regarding the program, while also offering networking possibilities for students as they start considering their area of interest for the 2026 internship. Feel free to ask if you need further details about the event, the internship initiative, or the GID overall.
