• Athlos NYC is offering millions in rewards for any female athlete who sets a new world record at their upcoming competition.
  • Having just won another world title, Faith Kipyegon will be the main attraction at the second installment of the women-only competition in New York.
  • Mary Moraa is the other Kenyan participant in the event, as the former world champion takes part in the 800m race.

Athlos NYC has revealed another innovative step that is expected to heighten the excitement before its second event.

What is Athlos NYC?

An event supported by Alexis Ohanian will take place again at the Icahn Stadium in New York on October 10. Ohanian is married to Serena Williams, a renowned tennis player.

The current edition will feature six track events: 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and the mile, along with one field event, the long jump, taking place in Times Square.

Faith Kipyegon will be the main attraction at the event, as the four-time 1500m world champion is set to take part in the slightly longer mile race.

Kipyegon was also the main highlight last year, when she finished her season with a strong performance to claim victory in the 1500m, just weeks after securing another Olympic gold in Paris.

Athlos collaborates with Cash App

The all-female track event has verified that it has collaborated with Cash App, which will enable athletes to receive their payments instantly.

"We are collaborating with Cash App as our official Payments Partner to introduce a faster future for track and field - both on the track and at the finish line - presenting a new approach to how performance translates into payment," stated the official release.
This year, Cash App is allowing instant prize distributions to all qualified athletes as soon as the outcomes are verified.

The action is viewed as a direct challenge to Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track, which has not yet compensated athletes despite its ambitious pledges.

How much will Kipyegon receive if she sets a new world record?

More significantly, Cash App has pledged a total of 250,000 USD (KSh 32.3 million) to any woman who sets a new world record during the event on October 10.

"Admin is pushing it too far: instant payments?? A $250K world-record bonus!?!? ATHLOS has once again revolutionized the game," said Ohanian on his X account.

What is the current world record for the women's mile?

The existing world record is maintained by Kipyegon, who set it with a time of 4:07.64 during a race in Monaco in 2023.

She achieved a faster time of 4:06.91 in June this year during the daring Breaking4 challenge, but this does not count as a world record since the race did not meet the standards set by World Athletics.

Who will Kipyegon face?

The mother of one will compete against American Nikki Hiltz, Jessica Hull, who earned a bronze medal in the 1500m at Tokyo, along with her fellow countrywoman Susan Ejore.

Also featured on the list are the second-fastest woman of all time, Gudaf Tsegay, and Freweyni Hailu.

Kipyegon gives her husband a warm hug

Kipyegon was kindly greeted by her spouse upon her arrival at the airport from Tokyo.

The authorities organized a vibrant celebration for Team Kenya following their achievement of securing 11 medals altogether.

Only the United States had a higher medal count than Kenya, with Kipyegon securing a gold and a silver.
