On Friday, October 3, Kenyan newspapers reported on the worries regarding Raila Odinga's health following his two-week withdrawal from public view as the leader of ODM.

The daily newspapers also explained why the United Opposition is wary of Jubilee Party secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni.

Although close allies say he is occupied and in good condition, former prime minister Raila Odinga has been notably missing from public view for nearly two weeks, sparking doubts about his well-being.

The absence of the ODM leader is particularly evident as the party gets ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The final significant public event for Raila took place on Monday, September 22, at the Argyle Grand Hotel during a meeting of the ODM Parliamentary Group.

He has now skipped significant events, including the presentation of nomination certificates to ODM candidates for the upcoming by-elections.

As per reports, Raila traveled abroad for medical treatment a few weeks back and was subsequently hospitalized at The Nairobi Hospital, where healthcare experts advised him to reduce his political engagements.

Nevertheless, his close allies, such as National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, denied the claims.

Junet stated that he had communicated with Raila and was on his way to meet him.

"He is at the gym. How can you claim he is sick?" he asked.

Raila remains among Kenya's most influential political figures despite being 80 years old.

2. Daily Nation

Concerns within Kenya's opposition have created unrest as the 2027 General Election approaches.

At the heart of the crisis is Jubilee secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni, who is leading Uhuru Kenyatta's party through challenges following his presidency.

The charges against Kioni, nevertheless, strike at the core of the Opposition's solidarity.

Is he supporting the movement or pushing Uhuru's strategy to have former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i head the Opposition in 2027?

Kioni was present at the negotiation table for Jubilee during the initial phases of the Opposition team's establishment.

The group consists of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa from the DAP-K, Martha Karua of the People's Liberation Party, and Justin Muturi from the Democratic Party.

As Kioni gradually faded from the public eye, Torome Saitoti, the Jubilee national chairman, assumed control several months later.

Sources state that Gachagua and Kalonzo were dissatisfied with Kioni, alleging that he was promoting a strategy that appeared to benefit Matiang'i.

The Jubilee SG was criticized for being overly outspoken, quick to condemn other leaders, and pushing Jubilee's interests instead of seeking mutual understanding.

3. People Daily

As the strategic representative of President William Ruto in Mount Kenya, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been given the responsibility of bringing stability to an area that is moving away from the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kindiki has adopted a technocratic strategy, emphasizing the progression of governmental development and economic policies along with collaboration between the national and regional governments.

This stands in opposition to his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, whose people-oriented policies were perceived by Ruto and his close associates as dividing the voters.

Despite Kindiki showing outstanding administrative capabilities, his political skills, especially within the Mount Kenya area, have not been as notable.

After a "successful" assignment, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has suggested that Kenyan soldiers may soon be returning to Haiti.

As per Murkomen, a new group will be dispatched, and the Kenyan police personnel serving within the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), which concluded its mission on Thursday, October 2, will head back to their country following the UN Security Council's decision to form a bigger force.

The United Nations Security Council gave its approval on Tuesday, September 30, for the establishment of a Gang Suppression Force (GSF) aimed at taking over the security support mission previously managed by Kenya.

The GSF will work closely with the Haitian National Police (HNP) during a first 12-month operation aimed at dismantling gangs that have taken over multiple towns.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) has decided that an employee is entitled to ask for and use annual leave even if their employer does not allow it.

Justice Monica Mbaru from the Mombasa ELRC stated that according to the Employment Act, employers must organize and permit employees to take their annual leave.

The judge stated, 'Disciplining an employee for using their annual leave is considered an unjust action.'

This came after a request from Badar Hardware Limited, which was contesting a magistrate's court decision. She stated it was unfounded.

Isaiah Masinde, a former worker at Badar Hardware Ltd., succeeded in a magistrate's court case following his unjust termination due to taking his accrued annual leave.
