KGL Foundation Drives Youth Football with U-17 Colts Championship 2025

The KGL Foundation has proudly declared its ongoing commitment to youth football by backing the recently concluded U-17 Football Tournament, which seeks to develop young talent and encourage sportsmanship among young people in Ghana.

This major effort demonstrates the KGL Foundation's dedication to supporting the younger generation via sports, learning, and local involvement.

Introduced in 2021 and now in its fifth cycle, the KGL U-17 inter-regional competition has become a key stage for discovering and developing new football talent in Ghana. The nine-day event highlighted some of the country's top young players, with the final taking place on September 27, 2025, at the McDan Teshie Sports Complex, concluding an uplifting tournament and underscoring the Foundation's commitment to shaping future sports stars.

The promising talent from Greater Accra, Jeremiah Abalo, was named the Overall Best Player, and while his team did not win the championship, his outstanding performances were acknowledged, securing him the prestigious award. Throughout the competition, Jeremiah Abalo shone with his remarkable displays, captivating fans with his ability and insight at both the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence and the McDan Teshie Sports Complex.

His exceptional performances motivated Greater Accra to a notable fourth-place position, with the team placing behind the bronze medal-winning Central Region, the previously reigning Western Region, and the Ashanti Region squad that ultimately emerged as champions.

The 2025 KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship concluded last Saturday, as the Ashanti Region secured their second title after defeating the defending champions from the Western Region 2-1 in an exciting final.

Among the individual award recipients, Frank Abu from the Western Region won the Best Goalkeeper Award following a string of impressive performances that not only assisted his team in reaching the final and earning a silver medal but also drew attention from many spectators throughout the competition.

Two attackers from the Ashanti Region, Agyei Duah and Alidu Issah, tied for the Top Scorer title, each netting seven goals to help their team secure the championship. Their teammate, Kelvin Baffoe, was also recognized as the Most Promising Player, highlighting Ashanti's superiority in both team and individual accolades.

The 2025 version included an expansion, with 12 teams comprising all ten Regional Football Associations, plus the two GFA Elite Academies. This guaranteed comprehensive national coverage and fierce competition, offering a stage for outstanding players.

The tournament, which is backed by a five-year, $1 million partnership with the KGL Foundation, continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Ghana Football Association’s grassroots development strategy.

Emphasizing his dedication to nurturing young talent, Elliot Dadey, the CEO of the KGL Foundation, highlighted the organization's support for the U-17 football competition. "At KGL Foundation, we are strongly dedicated to uplifting our youth through sports. This tournament was more than just a contest; it was about promoting collaboration, self-control, and leadership within young players," Elliot Dadey stated again.

Born as the corporate social responsibility division of the KGL Group, the Foundation was founded not only to contribute back but to rethink the concept of social responsibility within Ghana. It emerged from a more profound purpose: the belief that real change doesn't originate from outside— it starts from within.

Elliot Dadey, the CEO of the KGL Foundation, accurately states: "Our method is straightforward, but very purposeful: we enter communities, we listen, we gain knowledge, and we develop together. We work not as far-off supporters, but as equal collaborators—teamwork with individuals who experience the situations we aim to enhance. As a team, we create solutions that are based on local circumstances, cultural significance, and mutual responsibility."

Prioritizing innovation, connectivity, and the empowerment of individuals, the Foundation works within five main thematic fields—sports, arts and culture, youth development, health, and education—where their efforts are creating a significant and enduring impact.

The KGL Foundation has served as the title sponsor of the Millennium Marathon for three consecutive years. This partnership does not indicate any ownership, and no financial contributions from other sponsors have been received by our organization.
