Police Arrest Suspect Feeding Kidnappers in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has revealed the capture of more than 12 individuals linked to different offenses, including Auwal Mohammed, who was taken into custody as he attempted to deliver bread and other supplies to kidnappers in the Mazah area of Jos North Local Government.

Police Commissioner Emmanuel Adesina informed journalists at the Command Headquarters in Jos on Thursday that Mohammed, a member of a kidnapping group active between Plateau and Bauchi states, was captured by investigators from the command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit during an operation to provide materials to his associates.

In an effort to eliminate kidnapping in Plateau State, the command has detained a suspect involved in a kidnap ring near the Mazah community in Jos North Local Government Area.

A suspect named Auwal Mohammed, 20 years old from Tilde Fulani Toro LGA in Bauchi State, was taken into custody on 03/08/2025 around 12:30pm by our detectives from the command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

After performing an immediate search on him, the following things were discovered in his possession: one cutlass, pieces of bread, packs of cigarettes, packets of powdered Chekers Custard, one flashlight, packets of Glucose, packets of Top Tea, and a Tecno Camon Phone, which he claimed belonged to one of the victims.

During the interview, the suspect admitted to being part of a kidnapping group active near the borders of Plateau and Bauchi States. He further stated that he was on a task to obtain additional supplies for his gang members, who are waiting for a reply from the victim's family.

"The suspect is currently in our possession, with maximum efforts being made to apprehend his associates and bring them to court for further legal action," the CP stated.

He also revealed the detention of three additional suspects, Sunusi Abdullahi, Suleiman Saidu, and Abbas Yusuf, who were implicated in abductions within the Mista-Ali region of the Bassa Local Government Area.

In a separate update, Adesina mentioned that the police freed a kidnapped individual named Ebuka and detained four suspects: Joshua Ponzing Nathaniel, Zairuma Sani, Abas Sani, and Nanfa Goni, who were discovered carrying a homemade pistol.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the police detained two individuals, Inusa Yahaya and Abdulrahman Suleiman, who had a homemade rifle, and another person, Godwin Jacob, who was carrying a locally made pistol.

The CP pledged to the public that the command is dedicated to safeguarding people's lives and property in Plateau State, particularly during the "Ember Months," when criminal activity usually increases.

"I have instructed all DPOs and leaders of Tactical/Patrol Teams to participate in 'Ember Month Surveillance' activities to guarantee the safety of Plateau residents and tourists during this time," Adesina stated.

He mentioned that every suspect would face legal proceedings in court once the inquiry is concluded.

The CP requested locals to keep providing reliable information to assist the police in fighting crime across the state.
