
The Tanzanian administration has rejected a widely shared video on social media that claims to depict President Samia Suluhu's motorcade in an incident.
A government spokesperson and the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, stated that the video was deceptive and called on the public to ignore it.
"Disregard the false information circulating about this video from a long time ago. The convoy of President Samia Suluhu has not been part of an accident. The incident shown in the video occurred in 2024 and did not involve the President," he stated on Instagram.
He stated that the video being circulated was from a different event in 2024, which had no relation to the Head of State.
The authorities have cautioned against the circulation of false information on the internet, emphasizing that any updates about the President's movements and security will exclusively be shared via authorized government sources.
A fabricated video displayed a group of vehicles that had been involved in an accident, with some showing damage at the front and others located in a ditch.
The incident included more than seven luxury cars that were damaged at both the front and rear.
As stated by the representative, the incident occurred in February 2024 when the Makonda convoy was in Masasi, Mtwara.
Samia holds the position of President in the United Republic of Tanzania, making her the nation's initial woman to serve as head of state.
She launched her political journey in the Zanzibar House of Representatives.in 2000 prior to becoming a member of the National Assembly of Tanzania.
Throughout the years, she held multiple ministerial roles, earning acclaim for her emphasis on social progress and community well-being.
In 2015, she created history by being selected as the vice presidential candidate alongside the late former President John Magufuli., Tanzania's first woman vice president.
She held this position until March 2021, when she took over the presidency after Magufuli's passing, in accordance with the Tanzanian Constitution.
As president, Samia Suluhu Hassan has aimed to liberalize Tanzania's economy, enhance foreign relations, and encourage female involvement in leadership roles.
She has also guided the country during the post-pandemic recovery and focused on updating administrative systems.
She is not only a pioneer for Tanzanian women in politics but also an important figure in East African regional leadership.
Tanzania's general elections are scheduled for October 29, 2025, as declared by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), with President Samia aiming for her first complete term in power.
The surveys will include the presidency, legislative body, and municipal councils, as election activities are ongoing.
However, the election has been marred by controversy after the main opposition party Chadema was excluded from the competition.
