The President of Morocco’s General Confederation of Enterprises, Chakib Alj, has urged private firms to grant their staff an additional day off on Monday, June 9, coinciding with the government’s decision to close public offices during Eid al-Adha.
The appeal follows the official designation of that Monday as a public holiday, since Eid coincides this year with Saturday.
Alj issued a statement urging companies to back this initiative, which aims to provide employees with additional family time.
This follows a royal request askingMorrocans to skip the customary sacrifice because of economic and climatic issues that have significantly decreased the number of available animals.
The authorities highlighted that the ritual continues to be a sunnah for those who can manage financially, but opting out this year could alleviate stress on struggling families. Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office verified the suspension for public sector workers as per the 2005 decree that regulates official holidays.
