A Chinese traveler asserted that she received a fine of S$200 (US$155) from her hotel in Singapore for bringing durian into her room.
On May 26, a female traveler using the handle Blue Mulberry posted on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. She described how she and her companion were touring Singapore when they stumbled upon a street-side durian stand during their trip. Asia One reported.
Since there were no seats available, they opted to place the strong-smelling fruit inside a Styrofoam container and head back to their hotel instead.
During the taxi ride, her friend noted that the distinctive smell was already seeping out.
To prevent the smell from escaping, the woman securely wrapped the box with additional layers of cling film.
Upon returning to the hotel, they headed directly to their room and started consuming the fruit with little consideration.
That night later, the lady discovered a note positioned on the bed from an Indian news media outlet. NDTV reported.
A picture of the notice states: "We would like to inform you that our housekeeper detected a durian odor in your room... An additional charge of SG200 will be applied as a cleaning fee," the traveler shared in her posting.
Famous for its potent aroma, spiky exterior, and substantial dimensions, durian is frequently prohibited on public transportation, in hotels, and within other confined areas throughout Asia.
