The Oyo State government has shut down the structure that caved in during construction on Monday in the Dugbe section of Ibadan.

Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, the State Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, issued the instruction during his visit to the site on Monday.

Akin-Funmilayo mentioned that the step was taken to safeguard lives and properties.

He added that sealing off would also allow the government to assess the situation and come up with an adequate report on the cause of the incident.

The commissioner claimed that certain construction materials utilized in the erection of the fallen structure seemed to be inferior and poor in quality.

He stated that an integrity assessment would be conducted on the damaged structure to avoid future incidents.

Akin-Funmilayo indicated that the result of the examination would dictate the government's subsequent steps.

“After seeing the extent of the collapse, we decided it has to be sealed off because we have to prevent loss of lives.

Furthermore, this establishment is part of a well-known restaurant chain; I think the same engineer who worked on this location also managed their other outlets in Ibadan and various other cities.

“However, for this scenario to be true, we must conduct structural integrity checks on all of their structures.”

“Should we discover that the other outlets do not pass the integrity test, we will shut them down, as we can’t risk playing around with the safety of our community,” stated the commissioner.
