BEIJING, June 2 -- According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese capital welcomed 8.21 million tourists during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, representing a 5.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
From May 31 to June 2, during this three-day holiday, Beijing witnessed a tourist income of 10.77 billion yuan (approximately 1.49 billion U.S. dollars), marking an increase of 6.7% compared to the corresponding time frame last year.
In an effort to enhance the city’s appeal for tourists, over 1,700 cultural tourism activities such as dragon boat festivals, intangible cultural heritage bazaars, and Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) workshops were organized.
The Dragon Boat Festival this year fell on May 31, coinciding with Children's Day on June 1, leading to an increased interest in family-oriented activities and learning trips.
In the meantime, 1,119 commercial shows held throughout the city drew crowds totaling 458,000 people, generating a combined box office income of 140 million yuan — marking respective yearly increases of 32%, 75%, and 130%.
Over the course of three days, Beijing witnessed robust growth in its inbound tourism sector, recording 67,000 incoming tourists—a 35.8 percent rise compared to the same period last year—and generating tourism income amounting to 720 million yuan, marking a 41.1 percent increase year-over-year.
