The Chairman of CDA, Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, and Director General of Civil Defence, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, attended a meeting on Thursday where he received an extensive update on the functioning of the electric bus services and strategies to enhance commuting experiences for residents of Islamabad.

He ordered that details of all electric bus routes, stations, and schedules should be uploaded onto Google Maps and aggressively marketed to offer the public top-notch eco-friendly and air-conditioned transportation options. He emphasized that this move seeks to equip citizens with comprehensive remote access to electric bus data, thereby allowing for better trip planning.

The Chairman of CDA stressed that the paths and movements of every bus must be prominently displayed on Google Maps using clear color codes along with detailed stops. This would facilitate commuters in easily identifying their routes and anticipating when buses will arrive.

The chairman of CDA also instructed that payment for fares should be accepted via all Mastercards, Visas, and other similar cards. The relevant banks will collaborate for implementing this.

The chairman of CDA emphasized the importance of offering specialized deals for electric bus riders, directing that discounts be provided to frequent travelers. Furthermore, he called for the issuance of discounted tickets/passes on a weekly, every two weeks, monthly, and quarterly basis to substantially decrease fare costs for these passengers, thereby encouraging an increase in the fleet of electric buses. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that particular discounts must be made available to students, people with disabilities, and elderly individuals, allowing them access to environmentally friendly, high-quality air-conditioned transportation services at reduced rates.

At the briefing, Chairman CDA learned that the electric bus initiative is progressing smoothly without any hikes in fares from its inception. The number of passengers surpassed expectations, hitting around 95,000. He affirmed his dedication to enhancing the standard of electric bus services even more, making certain every step is aligned with global benchmarks.

The Chairman of CDA stressed the importance of advancing this service through state-of-the-art technology and globally recognized best practices to improve traveler comfort and convenience. The CDA is committed to offering residents a top-notch, secure, and contemporary transportation network, placing emphasis on sophisticated digital amenities and a clear, open process.

Randhawa ordered that the selection of new EV bus routes prioritize passenger demand. He called for boosting the daily usage of feeder buses along with introducing additional electric vehicles. The Chairman of CDA mandated reducing the project’s dependence on subsidies. To achieve this, advertising digital steppers/boards must be set up at bus stations as per legal requirements.
