Kericho - A quiet morning in Serutut village, Belgut Sub-county, turned into a scene of grief after a 45-year-old woman lost her life in a suspected electrical accident while preparing breakfast.

Joyce Chepkorir, who worked for Unilever and was also a parent, allegedly started using a new electric cooking coil but unfortunately met her demise due to a lethal electrical shock.
According to eyewitness accounts, she was in her bedroom in the early morning when the incident occurred.
Her spouse, Jackson Maritim, discovered her lifelessly sprawled out around 9 am, which caused widespread alarm among relatives and neighbors.
Her remains were subsequently transferred to the Sigowet Sub-county Morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
What led Joyce's neighbors to learn about her passing?
When news got out, stunned inhabitants flocked to the farmhouse, heartbroken over the unexpected death of a lady known for her diligence and warm spirit.
Gladys Chepkoech, who was among the initial individuals present, remembered a neighbor informing Joyce's spouse about smoke emanating from their residence.
"When he investigated, he mentioned that the smoke was emanating from Joyce's residence. Subsequently, her spouse returned. Upon seeing this, he approached and questioned him, 'Is not the smoke originating from your home?' Her husband then informed him that Joyce had perished due to an electric shock," she recounted.
A neighbor named Evaline Nafula mentioned that she was awakened suddenly around 6 am by a frightening shriek.

She shared that initially she believed people were engaged in a fight. However, once she exited, she discovered Joyce's lifeless form lying on the ground.
At six o'clock in the morning, I heard a scream and jolted awake. I was bewildered—is someone arguing out there? What’s happening? As soon as I rushed outside, I discovered our neighbor sprawled on the ground. She clutched something tightly just like this,” she explained, demonstrating the hold.
Rose Chelangat, who lives nearby, mentioned that witnessing Joyce’s deceased body was an image she could never erase from her memory.
“I arrived and saw the impact of electricity. She was a colleague working at Unilever. We’re not sure precisely what occurred since we weren’t present for it all, but we discovered her body on the ground. All I can do is express my condolences,” Chelangat stated.
The police officials who arrived at the location stated that they have initiated inquiries to determine whether the issue with the cooking appliance stemmed from a defect within the device itself or resulted from inadequate wiring.
A Kiambu man died after crossing a fence
In another part of Weru Muru, located in Lari, Kiambu County, a young man named Joseph Nene Wanjiku sadly lost his life when he was electrocuted while climbing over a neighbor's fence.
The residents stated that the neighbor set up the electric fence to prevent frequent livestock thefts in the region.
They highlighted that the neighbor meant no ill will and had secretly maintained the electric fence to avoid tipping off possible intruders.
