A 25-year-old gang member named Musa Shaibu, who was apprehended in the Ajegunle district of Lagos State, has admitted to intending to leave the country with his portion of the ransom money paid for the liberation of a kidnapped individual.
The accused individual along with another four people reportedly kidnapped the 14-year-old child of a Bureau de Change owner, known as Hassan, from his residence in the Olodi-Apapa region of Lagos.
Following the abduction of the victim, the perpetrators requested a ransom amount of N20 million.
'The aim wasn’t to hurt the child, but to obtain the sum of N20 million from his wealthy father. I planned to travel abroad with my portion of the funds,’ he allegedly stated to the investigating authorities.'
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect's arrest was sequel to a complaint lodged by the victim's father.
On May 1, 2025 around 4:50 pm, Hundeyin mentioned that the command’s detectives were alerted by an individual reporting that their 14-year-old son named Hassan had been abducted by alleged kidnappers in the Olodi-Apapa region. The abductors reportedly sought a ransom amounting to N20 million for Hassan’s liberation.
According to the report, agents were promptly sent to the location where the ransom was supposed to be collected, which was a fueling station near Wema Bridge in Apapa. During this operation, they managed to apprehend one of the kidnappers, identified as Musa Shaibu, who is 25 years old.
The team also visited the kidnappers' hideout located in a hotel within the Ajegunle district, where they found the captive unharmed. The individual was subsequently rescued, interrogated, and returned safely to their family members. Additionally, the hotel’s manager was apprehended and detained for further examination as part of an ongoing inquiry," he stated.
