Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has formally launched a recently trained Inspection and Compliance Task Force aimed at enforcing workplace safety and labor standards throughout the nation.
The task force, consisting of inspectors educated under the Factories, Offices and Shops Act (FOSA), Act 328, as well as the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), will oversee factories, offices, and shops to guarantee adherence to Ghana’s labor regulations.
During the inaugural event, Mr. Hamidu Adakurugu, who leads the ministry as its chief director, addressed the audience on behalf of the minister. In his address, he characterized the task force members as "pioneers of change and custodians of employee well-being." He emphasized that they have been entrusted with upholding fair employment practices, safeguarding labor rights, maintaining secure workplaces, and enhancing investors' trust in the economic climate.
Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that the Ministry had carefully chosen and educated the inspectors, considering both their technical skills and their honesty as well as dedication to enforcing the law. "The inspectors possess complete state authority to access any work environment, halt hazardous activities, and ensure that employers adhere to the strictest standards," he stated.
He issued a strict warning to employers nationwide: "Adherence is not open for discussion. Auditors will track you down, our regulations will make sure of your accountability, and our dedication to employee safety remains steadfast."
The Minister emphasized the administration's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, noting that particular care will be taken to shield female employees from bias, safeguard younger workers from dangerous occupations, assist individuals with disabilities via comprehensive employment practices, and provide official safeguards for those working informally.
Dr. Pelpuo stated that the Ministry remains committed to enhancing its inspectors through investments in advanced resources, solid legal frameworks, and public engagement initiatives aimed at boosting their efficiency.
The launch of the task force signifies a fresh dedication from the government to uphold workplace standards and protect the rights and welfare of every worker in Ghana.
