Pakistan, June 1 — LAHORE - In an effort to boost public safety and minimize energy waste, the local government has initiated a Rs 76 crore scheme to refurbish and upgrade more than 272,000 streetlights throughout Lahore.

This extensive initiative will take place across six city districts, primarily aiming to enhance nighttime visibility and tackle persistent concerns over dim and hazardous roads. During the initial stage, officials plan to deploy 150,000 new streetlights to replace faulty or obsolete ones.

Authorities have distributed area-specific allocations for execution: The Data Zone will get Rs 1.596 billion, Gulberg Zone Rs 1.49 billion, Nishtar Zone Rs 1.45 billion, Ravi Zone Rs 1.427 billion, Samanabad Zone Rs 993 million, and Shalimar Zone Rs 450 million.

City officials state that this program will enhance safety for both walkers and drivers as well as cut down on energy use through improvements to defective illumination infrastructure. They highlighted that proper street lighting is crucial for deterring criminal activities and mishaps.

Furthermore, this initiative to fix the streetlights is an integral component of a broader plan to revitalize Lahore’s urban landscape with the aim of updating its infrastructure. The authorities feel that reliable illumination along with enhanced public services will elevate the living standards for the city dwellers.

As the project progresses, authorities are promoting citizen input and vowing to maintain openness during implementation. The government has committed to finishing on schedule, providing periodic reports to foster public confidence and engagement.
