In the initial three months of this year, Malaysia welcomed 10.1 million international visitors, which made it the top tourist destination in Southeast Asia, largely due to its relaxed visa regulations.

According to official statistics, Thailand, who had been holding the championship title for many years, ranked second with 9.55 million, trailed by Vietnam (6 million) and Singapore (4.31 million).

Malaysia recently stated that they have extended the visa-free entry policy for visitors from China for another five years, with an option to extend it for an additional five years until 2036, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

The visa-free entry for Indian tourists has been prolonged until 2026 as well.

In the meantime, Thailand has faced a tourism crisis because of safety issues, particularly following the abduction incident. Chinese actor Xing Xing In January, and the number of international arrivals has been declining sharply.
