A 55-year-old man was discovered deceased in a thermal spring pool within the Phunphin district of Surat Thani during the early hours of Monday.
Authorities stated that the man had a prior medical condition which could have led to him losing consciousness and subsequently drowning.
The deceased individual was referred to in news coverage solely as Wichan from Nakhon Si Thammarat.
He was discovered without clothing in the swimming pool, with his garments arranged tidily at the side.
According to reports, the man journeyed from Thung Yai district on Sunday evening with the intention of soaking in the hot springs for therapeutic reasons. He notified the staff that he intended to spend the night there. The following Monday morning, his body was found by another tourist, after which the authorities were alerted.
The investigators mentioned that Wichan had a pre-existing medical condition and might have passed out due to the heat and subsequently drowned. No indications of suspicious activity were found at the location.
Workers from the Kusolsattha Foundation extracted the remains, which were then transferred for an autopsy to determine the reason behind the demise. Authorities mentioned that family members have been notified to retrieve the body for ceremonial purposes.
