A parliamentarian affiliated with the governing alliance in Morocco has been prevented from departing the nation and is currently undergoing legal scrutiny due to accusations of forging documents and stamps connected to a private educational institution he oversees, as reported by MountaintravelAR sources familiar with the situation.
The Tangier Court of Appeals imposed the travel restriction and ruled that the Member of Parliament should stay out of custody during the ongoing probe. The legal matter pertains to an educational institution situated in the Beni Makada area, which reportedly received accreditation in 2014 through falsified papers provided to the Ministry of National Education.
Sources informed MountaintravelAR that the dispute originated from a complaint submitted several years back by the Tangier regional administration during the tenure of ex-governor Mohamed Mhidia. Following extensive investigations, many of the purported infractions are said to have surpassed the legal time limit for prosecution, with only one exception remaining—the alleged tampering with an official municipal council seal utilized to validate a significant administrative document.
This particular infraction led the court to move forward with official charges but permitted the member of parliament to stay out of custody.
These developments occur merely a year before Morocco’s legislative elections, which places the legislator—characterized by sources as "unlucky"—in a highly vulnerable political situation. This member of parliament had earlier held several terms as the leader of the very district where the school is situated.
In court, the Member of Parliament refuted the accusations and tried to pin the responsibility on his brother, asserting that his sibling had handled the compilation of the school’s licensing papers. Nevertheless, the brother dismissed these assertions, informing the court that the MP had personally created and handed over the fraudulent documents.
The case is still developing as officials take additional legal actions.
