A tremor with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the northern Thai province of Chiang Mai on Monday afternoon and was experienced across multiple districts in five different provinces.

The Department of Mineral Resources reported that the earthquake occurred approximately one kilometer beneath the surface in tambon Mae Pang, located within Phrao District of Chiang Mai province, at 2:07 PM.

The department deemed the earthquake as minor and linked it to the activity along the Mae Tha fault.

The earthquake was experienced across various districts including Chiang Dao, Doi Saket, Fang, Mae Ai, Mae Taeng, Mae Wang, Muang, Phrao, San Sai, and Saraphi in Chiang Mai province; Koh Kha district in Lampang province; Muang district in Lamphun province; Pai district in Mae Hong Son province; as well as Dok Kham Tai district in Phayao province, according to the report from the department.
