On Tuesday, Russia targeted the Ukrainian city of Sumy, resulting in at least three deaths and 20 injuries, as reported by Ukraine’s emergency services.
Based on initial findings, Russia targeted the city using long-range multiple-rocket launchers.
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that at least one missile did not explode and instead penetrated the wall of a nine-story residential building.
"The Russians carried out a brutal assault on Sumy — specifically aiming their rocket artillery at the city and its regular neighborhoods. This was an intentional attack on civilian areas," Zelenskyy stated.
The Sumy regional military administration stated that a healthcare center, vehicles, and houses sustained damage due to the attacks.
“That alone speaks volumes about what Russia supposedly wants regarding ending this conflict,” said Ukraine’s president, urging increased pressure from the US and Europe on Moscow, noting “there isn’t a single day that passes without Russia attacking Ukrainian towns and countryside.”
The Sumy area located in northeastern Ukraine shares borders with Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod areas. Due to its closeness to the frontier, it has frequently been subjected to relentless Russian shelling and multiple attacks.
Recently, Moscow’s forces have stepped up their military operations near the boundary of the Sumy region. Earlier, Zelenskyy had cautioned that Russia has amassed approximately 50,000 troops in that area, aiming to launch an invasion and establish a 10-kilometer buffer zone.
Russia's continuous nighttime drone assaults on Ukraine persist
Russia dispatched 112 drones towards Ukraine during the night, with some of them being Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Air Force succeeded in bringing down 60 drones, while 15 UAVs were either neutralized through electronic warfare or vanished from radar surveillance without inflicting any harm, as stated officially.
In the southern Odessa area, five individuals sustained injuries due to an assault. Additionally, this incident involving a drone led to a conflagration at a food storage facility and caused damage to both residential structures and vehicles.
Russian drone and missile strikes on the Sumy region wounded four individuals, as reported by local officials. Meanwhile, in the adjacent Kharkiv region, at least three people died during an assault that took place overnight.
In southern Ukraine, Russian drones attacked a facility belonging to the State Emergency Service along with some service vehicles in the Zaporizhzhia area.
