The president of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries (HCSTSI), Muhammad Saleem Memon, noted that with Eid-ul-Adha approaching, sacrificial animals have begun to arrive in the city, leading to increased activity at livestock markets across different parts of Hyderabad. Given these conditions, prompt actions are essential to maintain urban hygiene, protect public health, and safeguard the environment, as per Mr. Memon’s statement. In an official communication directed to the General Manager Operations of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) in Hyderabad, President Saleem Memon suggested developing a detailed sanitation strategy specifically tailored for Eid-ul-Adha 2025. This initiative calls for initiating a coordinated cleanup effort spanning over two weeks—beginning before Eid and extending afterward—to efficiently handle animal waste and carcasses, thereby keeping the city tidy and safe from potential health risks. Mr. Memon commended the admirable work done by SSWMB during the previous year's celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, acknowledging their efforts were recognized positively by citizens and businesses alike. Nonetheless, he highlighted that setting up SSWMB aimed beyond just collecting refuse; it was intended to transform waste into resources beneficial for both ecological balance and economic growth. Despite clear progress in garbage collection, there appears to be confusion amongst local merchants and residents about how exactly managing and recycling waste contributes constructively towards betterment. He stressed further that faced with growing obstacles this time around, additional preventive measures should now come under consideration.
