The trainer and trainee at Ilorin International Aviation College who experienced a crash landing involving their training aircraft on Friday are now in stable condition.

According to Daily Trust, the training aircraft managed by the Ilorin International Aviation College (IAC) in Ilorin, Kwara State, crashed landed on Friday.

The administration of the college expressed their surprise upon learning about the accident where one of its Diamond Training Aircraft, registered as BNI, had an emergency landing at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin.

'For the Honor of God Almighty, both the flight instructor and the student aboard are currently undergoing medical care at the hospital. They are both stable and responding well to the treatment,' stated the institution.

The investigation showed that the event took place on Friday evening during the approach to Runway 05 at Ilorin International Airport.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), which also verified the occurrence in a statement, mentioned that they have initiated an inquiry into the event.

As stated by Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Support, the event occurred at 17:28 local time when they were conducting a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05 at Ilorin International Airport.

She mentioned that the airplane, which had two people onboard, deviated from the runway and halted at the edge of the grass.

'She stated that both individuals suffered significant injuries and were quickly airlifted to a healthcare center, with operations managed by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).'

The agency mentioned that their Go-Team is presently getting ready to leave Abuja for Ilorin to carry out field investigations.

The team will ensure the safety of the location, gather tangible proof, question eyewitnesses, and obtain functional information to determine the reason for the occurrence as well as the elements that led to it," the statement noted.

Regarding the incident, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the NSIB, stated: "Our sympathies go out to those who were hurt, and we applaud the rapid medical and emergency responses. Currently, our priority is to determine precisely what occurred. Each investigation presents a chance for enhancing safety measures. Our team will be dispatched to Ilorin to make certain that nothing escapes scrutiny."

The agency advised the populace and journalists to refrain from speculating and to wait for confirmed reports instead.

The NSIB stated its continued dedication to conducting a comprehensive, impartial, and skilled inquiry aimed at supporting current initiatives to improve aviation safety in Nigeria.
