In the final week of May, Thailand reported 65,880 new coronavirus infections and three fatalities; however, the surge had started to decline from its annual high point, as stated by the public health minister.
On Monday, Minister Somsak Thepsuthin stated that the recent figures for infections and deaths were documented between May 25 and 31.
The largest segment of newly reported cases consisted of individuals between 30-39 years old, totaling 12,403 people. This was followed by 10,368 cases among those in their 20s and 9,590 instances involving persons aged 60 and above. The spread of the illness was occurring spontaneously during the monsoon period, as stated by the minister.
People might be startled by the five-figure count of fresh cases, so I've instructed healthcare workers to brace themselves for what’s ahead... Nonetheless, the Division of Epidemiology stated that the surge appears to be subsiding, and we’ve moved past our peak," Mr Somsak noted. He didn’t provide further details about this year’s peak period.
The minister recommended that individuals safeguard themselves by using face masks in potentially hazardous or congested locations, performing self-testing to avoid accidental spread to those who are at higher risk, maintaining frequent handwashing habits, consuming well-cooked meals, and avoiding contact with their faces, eyes, noses, and mouths.
He mentioned that he instructed healthcare staff to stock up on necessary medications and medical equipment for both patients and those who are at higher risk.
Mr. Somsak mentioned that the number of influenza cases was decreasing. He noted that the majority of flu sufferers were children aged between five and nine years old, whereas the most severe outcomes and deaths occurred primarily amongst older individuals and people who had pre-existing medical conditions.
