Accra, June 5, GNA - Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, has warned about disjointed approaches within the tourism industry. She emphasized that lack of coordination might result in disorganized and uncontrolled service provision.
She highlighted the significance of strategic planning to guarantee that industry standards are upheld.
"When a vacuum exists, young people tend to find ways to occupy it, frequently bypassing established regulations," she remarked as the recently inaugurated leaders of theTour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) visited her inAccra.
The Minister encouraged all parties involved to stay pertinent and collaborate in order to bolster the tourism sector.
Her request follows ongoing initiatives to enhance Ghana’s attractiveness for tourists, all while ensuring standards and regulatory supervision are upheld.
Madam Gomashie stated that the government was actively working towards developing Ghana’s tourism industry through well-thought-out strategies. She emphasized the importance of using the nation’s cultural heritage as a strong catalyst for boosting tourism.
The Black Star Experience" ought to be an engaging cultural bundle that welcomes visitors into the essence of Ghanaian living.
"But we have to mark it deliberately," she stated.
President Mrs. Yvonne Donkor from TOUGHA mentioned that the purpose of their visit was to extend congratulations for the Minister’s recent appointment, familiarize them with the organization’s new leaders, and discuss significant issues impacting the tour operations sector.
She pointed out the increasing presence of unqualified service providers advertising their offerings on social platforms without proper instruction or supervision as a significant hurdle.
Mrs. Donkor detailed the association's intentions to bring together travel agencies across the country, highlight local regions as tourist spots, and increase national tourism activities outside of just Accra and Cape Coast.
"Our objective is to develop a genuine and inclusive tourism culture throughout all regions and pledge to encourage domestic tourism as well as promote travel within Africa," she said.
She urged for mutual tourism promotion throughout the continent.
"Although more than 36,000 Ghanaians traveled to South Africa in 2024, it is now essential to intensify efforts to promote Ghana more vigorously both within South Africa and further abroad," she stated.
Mrs. Donkor stated that TOUGHA will initiate a training program in July aimed at enhancing tour packaging, pricing strategies, and service delivery to elevate overall service quality.
She stated that The Union was dedicated to enhancing cooperation, implementing robust regulations, and focusing their advertising efforts to establish Ghana as a leading tourist hub in Africa.
