Noakhali, June 3 - Authorities found the body of a policeman two days following his disappearance in the Meghna River within the Noakhali district. This occurred just after a trawler with 39 individuals onboard overturned in the same river on Saturday.
Md Saiful Islam, who passed away at the age of 28, lived in Charshahi village within the Chandraganj police jurisdiction in Lakshmipur district. He was employed at the Hatiya police station in Noakhali.
Residents reported seeing the corpse drifting near the riverside in the Darbesh Bazar district of the island and notified law enforcement officials.
The Officer-in-Charge at the Hatiya police station, AKM Azmal Huda, stated that the corpse had been brought ashore by the tidal current.
Up until now, 35 individuals have been saved, whereas the number of fatalities has reached three, he stated, also mentioning that a young Rohingya boy called Tamim remains unaccounted for.
On Saturday, the vessel transporting 39 individuals, which included law enforcement officers, Ansar members, Rohingya patients, and non-government organization staff, departed from Bhasan Char heading towards Ali Bazar Ghat in Hiron union.
Approximately 7-8 kilometers into their trip, the trawler capsized near Dubarchar because of severe weather conditions.
