On June 6, Pakistan time, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a revised travel ban on Wednesday. This executive order affects 12 nations such as Afghanistan, Iran, and Yemen, reinstating one of the most contentious policies from his initial term in office.
Trump said the measure was spurred by a makeshift flamethrower attack on a Jewish protest in Colorado that US authorities blamed on an man they said was in the country illegally.
This policy prohibits all travel to the United States for citizens from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Trump also imposed a partial ban on travelers from seven countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. Some temporary work visas from these countries will be allowed.
The restrictions will come into force on Monday, according to the White House.
“The terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado has highlighted the significant threats facing our nation due to the presence of individuals from abroad who have not undergone adequate screening,” Trump stated in a video address from the Oval Office shared on X. “Such people are unwelcome.”
However, this ban will not affect athletes participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States along with Canada and Mexico, nor the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to Trump’s directive.
On Wednesday, Trump independently declared a visa prohibition for international students planning to enroll at Harvard University, intensifying his efforts against what he views as a hub of liberalism.
The American president likened the fresh initiatives to the stringent restrictions he enforced on several predominantly Muslim nations during his initial term, leading to global disruptions in travel.
Trump said that 2017 ban had stopped the United States from suffering terror attacks that happened in Europe.
Trump stated that they would prevent events from Europe from occurring in America.
We can't allow unrestricted immigration from nations where we lack the ability to conduct safe and effective background checks.
Venezuela responded by cautioning that the United States could also be considered a risky location.
