Despite some worries about the impact on local wildlife, a new water park is scheduled to debut this summer.
Vale of Glamorgan Council has declared that the attraction will debut at Cosmeston Country Park on July 5th. The council has partnered with the Aqua Park Group for this initiative, which aims to host a temporary water park throughout the summer season.
Local residents and city counselors expressed worries regarding the proposals; however, municipal authorities maintained that safeguards would be implemented to shield local fauna, with visits limited exclusively to the lake’s east shore.
The water park will resemble the The Aqua Park attraction that was previously located in Cardiff Bay. , including an obstacle course equipped with inflatables, slides, and climbing structures.
The attraction was relocated due to water quality issues that made it "inoperable" at the bay.
The council's director of place, Marcus Goldsworthy, said the decision to move the attraction presented an opportunity for the council to generate income for improving park facilities at Cosmeston, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service .
Nevertheless, worries regarding its potential effects persist, as evidenced by a petition against the proposals which has amassed 3,965 signatures to date.
During a scrutiny committee meeting held in March, Conservative council member Anthony Ernest expressed growing concern over the proposed water park as he learned more details about the project and its possible effects.
In the meantime, Elliot Penn, who serves as a Labour council member, questioned the procedures for monitoring water quality at the location.

Mr. Goldsworthy mentioned that the water at Cosmeston undergoes testing biannually to guarantee the maintenance of its quality. He also noted that the lake has previously hosted water-related activities.
The cabinet member for sustainable places at Vale of Glamorgan Council, Bronwen Brooks, stated that the water park would serve as an excellent enhancement to the impressive facilities already available at Cosmeston Country Park.
"The consultation with locals via the council’s placemaking efforts revealed a desire within the community—especially amongst younger individuals—for greater diversity in recreational pursuits. Reinstating aquatic activities at Cosmeston will assist us in making sure that all our country parks cater to every member of the public," she stated.
In late September, the council plans to assess the trial run of the water park and determine whether they will put out a bid process to have another party manage the facility starting next year.
