The special deal for passenger maritime travel between Morocco and Southern Europe under the Marhaba 2025 initiative will see an increase of 520 weekly sailings to handle the anticipated influx during summertime, according to Mustapha Baitas, who serves as the Minister Delegate responsible for parliamentary relations and acts as a government spokesman, on Thursday.
Following queries from reporters after the cabinet session, the minister stressed that under the Marhaba 2025 initiative, the capability of the specialized sea transportation services has been boosted to handle 500,000 travelers and 130,000 cars each week.
Baitas stated that 29 vessels from seven different shipping firms were deployed to maintain 12 routes connecting ports in Morocco with those in Italy, France, and Spain.
He mentioned that the initiatives aimed at guaranteeing the operation’s success also emphasize boosting security by enhancing border control technology and providing robust assistance through 24 reception centers—18 located domestically and 6 internationally—as well as deploying specialized medical personnel along routes and in service areas.
He went on to say that consular services would operate as normal on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays between June 15 and September 15.
