The World Health Organization suggests that nations stay alert and keep an eye on variant developments to prevent overburdening health care services, while also recommending continued emphasis on vaccinations.

This emerging strain has caused an increase in infections across Europe and the United States.

As per Julio Lopez, an expert in virology, " The current information indicates that NB.1.8.1 might transmit more readily and could partly bypass the protection gained from prior infections or vaccinations. ."

The primary indicators include fever or chills, coughing, difficulty breathing, a sore throat, stuffiness or a runny nose, recently diminished sense of taste or smell, feelings of tiredness, and pain in muscles or throughout the body.

The newly identified strain from January is an offshoot of Omicron. The report of this incident surfaced initially in January 2025 in Egypt, Thailand, and the Maldives.
