New Delhi [India], July 19 (ANI): Following the United States' designationThe Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO), Union Minister Pralhad Joshiwelcomed the action and stated it demonstratedIndia's success in exposing Pakistan's role in terrorism">cross-border terrorism.
Speaking with the press on Friday, Joshi stated, "Indiais striving to convey to the world thatPakistanis involved in all the cross-border terrorist activities occurring within the nation. Certain nations are requiring more time to be persuaded, but the government ofIndiamanaged to persuade the global community thatPakistan is trying to destabilise India with terrorism">cross-border terrorism."
The title follows TRF's assertion of responsibility for the April 22 terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Jammu andKashmir, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians and triggered a four-day military escalation betweenIndia and Pakistan.
Responding to these, Retired Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, who was the Corps Commander inKashmirBetween 2019 and 2020, also supported the US action.
"This is the first instance during that time when this name gained attention. TRF is merely a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba. As Lashkar-e-Taiba faced international sanctions, they introduced TRF...Initially, it appeared as an online entity which later took responsibility for all the terrorist activities carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba, including the Pahalgam attack," Dhillon said to ANI.
He stated, "It is a highly positive development that it has been classified as a terrorist group and as a foreign terrorist organization, and"Pakistannow should be recognized as a terrorist state.
Meanwhile, TRF was established in 2019, just after the cancellation of Article 370 in Jammu andKashmir, as part of PakistanThe group's blended warfare approach. The faction attacks civilians, minorities, visitors, and law enforcement in the Union Territory. As per reports, TRF has utilized former SSG commandos from thePakistanTroops, including one Hashim Musa, to execute its assaults.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-backed militant Proxy in Kashmir, centers on terrorist attacks, recruitment, and propaganda, they stated.
The group's main leadership, including founder Muhammad Abbas Sheikh and Basit Ahmed Dar, the Operational Chief, has been killed. Its Supreme Commander, Sheikh Sajjad Gul, is reportedly still active, according to sources.
Some reports suggest that the TRF's headquarters could be moving from Muridke to Bahawalpur inPakistan.
Responding to the announcement, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Friday expressed approval of the US choice, describing it as a "solid validation of"India-US counter-terrorism cooperation."
