
Durgapur(West Bengal) [India], July 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone, opened, and presented to the country several development initiatives valued at more than Rs 5,400 crore inDurgapur, West Bengal.
Speaking to the crowd, the Prime Minister stated thatDurgapur, referred to as the Steel City, is also a key center for India's workforce. He recognized the important role in India's growth and mentioned that today offers a chance to enhance that position.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the initiatives announced today will improve connectivity in the area, promote gas-powered transportation, and strengthen the gas-driven economy.Durgapuridentity as a City of Steel.
The Prime Minister mentioned that these initiatives are in line with the "Make in India, Make for the World" vision and will drive progress in West Bengal. He stated that many new job opportunities will be generated for the local youth. He expressed sincere congratulations to everyone for these development projects.
Prime Minister Modi mentioned that the current global conversation focuses on India's determination to emerge as a developed country. He credited this with the ongoing transformative changes in India, which are establishing the groundwork for a developed Bharat.
Stressing that a key part of these modifications isinfrastructureincluding social, physical, and digital aspects, PM Modi emphasized significant accomplishments: more than 4 crore pucca houses for the underprivileged, crores of toilets, over 12 crore tap water connections, and thousands of kilometers of new infrastructure.roads and highways, new railhighways, airports in rural areas, and broad internet connectivity extending to every village and home. He stated that this modernizationinfrastructureis providing advantages to all states, including West Bengal.
The Prime Minister also mentioned extraordinary advancements in railway connections in West Bengal, pointing out that Bengal is one of the top states with a significant number of Vande Bharat trains in operation. He emphasized the swift growth of the Kolkata Metro and the current development of new lines.raillines, track duplication, and power supply.
Prime Minister Modi also added that manyrailway stations are undergoing upgrades and a significant number ofrail overbridges are being constructed.
He declared that two additionalrailNumerous overbridges have been opened in West Bengal today, with the statement that all these initiatives will greatly improve the lives of the people in Bengal.
Emphasizing that the area's airport is now part of the UDAN initiative, the Prime Minister noted that more than 500,000 travelers have used this facility in just the last year.
He emphasized that such infrastructurenot only improves ease of use but also creates jobs for thousands of young people. He mentioned that even the manufacturing of raw materials utilized in these initiatives is generating significant employment possibilities.
Emphasizing that over the past 10-11 years, India has achieved remarkable advancements in gas connectivity, the Prime Minister mentioned that LPG has become available to homes throughout the nation during this period, receiving international acclaim.
He highlighted the government's efforts regarding "One Nation, One"Gas"Grid" vision and the introduction of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Yojana. This program involves the installation of gas pipelines throughout six eastern states, such as West Bengal.
Keeping in mind the objective of providing cost-effective piped gas to industries and households in these states, the Prime Minister stated that the availability of gas will allow vehicles to operate on CNG and industries to utilize gas-powered technologies. He conveyed his approval thatDurgapurIts industrial area is now part of the NationalGas Grid.
Prime Minister Modi mentioned that this initiative will support local industries and provide inexpensive piped gas to almost 30 lakh homes in West Bengal. He emphasized that this will improve the lives of millions of families, particularly mothers and sisters, and create job opportunities for thousands.
The Prime Minister stated that significant steel andpower plants in Durgapurand Raghunathpur have been modernized using new technology, with an investment of around Rs 1,500 crore in these facilities.
He highlighted that these plants are now more efficient and able to compete on a global scale. He offered special commendations to the people of Bengal for the successful completion of these projects.
PM Modi said that whether in India's factories or its farmlands, all efforts are fueled by one determination—to transform India into a developed country by 2047. He presented the government's plan ahead: empowerprogress via development, independence via work, and effective leadership through adaptability.
The Prime Minister ended by stating that maintaining these principles will transform West Bengal into a powerful driver of India's progress.
West Bengal's Governor, CV Ananda Bose, along with Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Shantanu Thakur, and Sukanta Majumdar, attended the event alongside other notable figures.
