• Candidate from Kisa East ward, Abraham Ayaya, has reclaimed the ODM ticket that was assigned to him for the November by-election.
  • He sent a message to the party announcing his choice to return the ticket, opting instead to run under a DAP-Kenya party ticket.
  • Kisa East is one of the constituencies scheduled for a by-election on November 27, after the passing of its former MCA, Stephen Maloba, in 2023.

The Orange Democratic Movement is experiencing uncertainty as outspoken candidates refuse to run under the party's banner in the upcoming by-elections for Kisa East Ward.

The by-elections scheduled for November 27th in Kisa East follow the death of Stephen Maloba, who was stabbed multiple times during an event in his constituency.

Speaking to MountainTravel.co.keAfter returning the ODM party ticket, Abraham Ayaya stated he is not a member of the party and would not run for office using its endorsement. He claimed the party had inadvertently intended to use his name for blackmail.

Abraham again called on his followers to stay strong and not be frightened by prominent ODM party officials.

He mentioned that he has been a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya led by Eugene Wamalwa, but not part of the ODM party.

"I have been a member of DAP-K for some time and will run under the party's nomination, so disregard the rumors claiming I am part of ODM," Ayaya confirmed.

In a recent letter addressed to the ODM Kakamega Branch, Abraham Ayaya mentioned that the party did not seek his extensive input regarding the selection of his name as their candidate.

He mentioned that it was regrettable to agree to their request, as he was part of a different political group.

Nevertheless, he mentioned that currently the ODM party was submitting his name to the National Election Council Committee, he was already a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya.

"By the time ODM contacted me, my name had already been sent to DAP-K, where I am officially registered as a active member. I respectfully reject the nomination certificate given to me, and I have returned it," Ayaya stated.

This uncertainty followed the ODM party's decision to appoint Thomas Omurunga Eshuya earlier last month, who then declined and returned to the ODM committee.

Eshuya, in a statement released on September 23rd, mentioned that for reasons that were not disclosed, he agreed to the party's request to return the ticket so that the party could pass it on to Abraham Ayaya.

Eshuya, also known as a comedian, stated that even after returning the ticket, he remains a dedicated ODM member.

"I express my gratitude to ODM for having faith in my campaign. I will always be thankful and devoted to the party," Eshuya stated.

The ODM party is currently at its height in selecting another candidate who will campaign under the party's banner.

The party has encountered several challenges in Kakamega County over the past few weeks after Governor Fernandes Barasa and Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera announced their appointment as chairmen.

Moreover, the Kisa East MCA seat has drawn multiple candidates, such as former MCA Joel Ongoro, who will run under the MDG party, and Abraham Ayaya, from the DAP-K party.
